Maruti Suzuki India to address backlog with DZire production at Gurgaon

India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has commenced the production of the new DZire sedan at the Gurgaon facility in addition to the Manesar facility to address the backlog of more than 65,000 units. The production of the sedan was halted with the shut down at the Manesar plant following the violence perpetrated by certain workers in July 2012.

The Gurgaon facility was earlier manufacturing only the old model of the DZire which is now being sold as a commercial vehicle. However, the pressure of the backlogs and the current waiting period of 4-5 months for the new DZire have forced the carmaker to start its production at the Gurgaon facility as well. Earlier, the new DZire was being rolled out only from the Manesar facility.

Apart from additional production at the Gurgaon plant, the automaker is also considering an increase of 10 percent in overall production in the fiscal 2012-13. The 2011-12 fiscal witnessed an overall production of 10,00,000 units by the auto manufacturer.
