Maruti Suzuki to expand presence in North East India

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has announced its plans to increase its presence in the rural and remote areas of North East India and expects rapid growth in sales and volumes in the region by 2016-17.

The current sales levels in the North East region stand at a monthly average of 3,000 unit sales. Mr. Mayank Pareek Chief Operating Officer (Marketing and Sales) Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) commented on the development stating that the carmaker sees huge potential in the rural areas of the region apart from the major cities.

The North East region currently contributes about 4 percent of the total domestic sales volume of the company. Mr. Pareek further added that the contribution is expected to rise significantly by 2016-17. Majority of the sales are accounted for by the state of Assam which contributes about 60 percent of the total sales in the region.

In order to increasing its presence across the geographically challenging region, Maruti Suzuki is in the process of expanding its dealership network which currently has 39 dealer showrooms and 52 workshops.
