Maruti Suzuki to double its car portfolio with new launches

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India is planning to double its car model offerings in its portfolio to 25 which will include the launch of new car models and an entry into new market segments such as sports utility vehicles and light commercial vehicles. The carmaker aims for an annual sales figure of 30,00,000 units.

The automaker is expected to launch a sport utility vehicle for the India market which is likely to compete with the Renault Duster. Plans for a compact SUV are also in pipeline for a launch in the year 2016 which will challenge the likes of the Ford Ecosport compact SUV. The automaker is also planning to set up a separate network to enter the light commercial vehicle segment of the market.

The carmaker’s Gujarat plant will play a significant role in these plans as the new facility will add 15,00,000 units annually to the existing sales figure of 11,60,000 units sold in 2013-14.
