Maruti Suzuki India is developing a diesel engine for its entry level hatches and LCV model range. After the popularity of its hatchback model Celerio Company decided to launch diesel avatar too. The engine will initially be codenamed as Y9T is expected to launch in early 2015. Currently the engine is on research and test condition and the Celerio diesel will be launch after the company think it would be suitable for the small car.
The Maruti Celerio AMT variant is more popular than MT version, Celerio has been a huge success since launched in February 2014. Maruti Suzuki India has received close to 40,000 bookings for only the Celerio model. MSI has ramped up production to 10,000 units a month from 5,000 units to keeping in mind success.
Maruti Celerio is powered by 1.0 litre K-Series engine that generating 68 PS of power output and 90 Nm of torque and claims a fuel economy of 23.1 kmpl for manual and AMT variants. Company will soon add a ZXi trim of AMT variant which will be equipped with extra features like audio system with Bluetooth telephony, keyless entry, steering mounted audio controls, front airbags, rear window wiper and washer.
