Indian car sales for July 2008

India’s top three car makers – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors reported a decline in domestic sales in July 2008 as compared to July 2007 while Skoda and General Motors grew during the same period.

Maruti Suzuki India’s July domestic sales stood at 52,911 units against 52,839 units in the same month a year-ago, up by 0.1 per cent.

Tata Motors reported a 14.0 per cent decline in total sales during July at 14,652 units, compared to 17,037 units the same month last year.

Hyundai Motor India reported a domestic sales growth of 0.4 per cent at 15,066 units in July as against 15,003 units in the same month last year.

General Motors India, however, managed to grow by 25 per cent in July at 5,706 units against 4,570 units during the same month of the last year.

Skoda India reported a sale of 1,550 units in July this year, an increase of 83.4 per cent from 854 units during the same period last year.

Honda Siel Cars India reported sales of 4,339 units in July 2008 as compared to 4,533 units in July 2007 registering a dip of 4.27 per cent.

Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 6 per cent decline in sales of July 2008 (17,302 units) as compared to sales of July 2007 (18,563 units).
