Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recently started a driving school for the underprivileged, as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. HMIL will invest a sum of Rs 12 lakh, annually, to train economically backward youths as drivers. The school has been set up within HMIL’s factory premises in Chennai and will train four batches of drivers (or around 100 people) every year. Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) Advisor, Mr S Ganpathy, said that the company had long felt a great need to train drivers and help promote road safety and reduce instances of road accidents. Apart from giving driving lessons, Hyundai Driving School will also ensure that trainees understand the dynamics of vehicles and how to optimize their performance. In addition, it will provide practical training on working models of various automobile systems like the Cooling system, Transmission system, Fuel system, etc.
Last week, the company honoured 19 drivers who had completed their training at the new driving school. These drivers, after a rigorous selection process, had undergone two months of intensive training.
