Hyundai India sales grow 4.9 percent in April 2012

Hyundai India has witnessed a growth of 4.9 percent in its total sales in April 2012. The company sold 52,057 units in the month in comparison to 54,606 units sold in April 2011. The domestic sales of the company grew 10.9 percent from 31,636 units in April 2011 to 35,070 units in April 2012. The company exported 19,536 units in the month, down 4.3 percent in comparison to 20,421 units exported in April 2011.

Mr. Arvind Saxena Director (Marketing and Sales) Hyundai Motor India Limited stated the current market conditions to be challenging for the auto industry due to the price hike across car models in response to the excise duty hike in the Union Budget 2012-13 announced in March 2012.

The hatchback segment of the company including the Eon, the Santro, the i10 and the i20 accounted for majority of the sales with 44,891 units. The A3 segment including the Accent sedan and the Verna sedan contributed 9,579 units. The Hyundai Sonata luxury sedan and the SUV Santa Fe sold 66 units and 70 units respectively.
