Honda to invest Rs 2,500 crore in India for new production plant

Honda India, the wholly owned Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda has announced its plans to invest an amount of Rs 2,500 crore in India to set up a new production plant in the state of Rajasthan.

The setting up of a new production facility by Honda is aimed at doubling its production in India to support the demand for new car models in India. The new facility is expected to be operational by 2014 and will cater to the car assembly and diesel engine component requirements in India.

The Japanese automaker has posted a growth of 35 percent in its sales for the fiscal 2012-13, selling 73,483 units in the period in comparison to 54,427 units sold in the same period on 2011-12. The carmaker is planning to launch the Amaze sedan based on the Brio platform in the Indian market.

The Amaze will be Honda’s first diesel car model to be launched in India. The company expects the launch of the Amaze to further boost its sales in the Indian market and enable it to capture a larger share.
