Honda India views exports for capacity utilization

Honda Siel Cars India is planning to utilize the vacant capacity of car production by commencing exports of the Brio hatchback car model. Mr. Hironori Kanayama President and CEO Honda Siel Cars India states that the company has ambitious plans with significant changes by the year 2014.

The company also plans on adding 5,00,000 customers to its existing base by 2016-17, doubling its customer base to 10,00,000. Moreover, the company will re-orient its strategies and implement plans to become the best car brand in India by 2016-17. With the introduction of diesel versions of its car models in India by the end of 2012 or early 2013, the company expects to boost sales and recover falling market share due to lack of diesel engine option in its product line-up.

Honda’s sales in India have been severely hit at multiple fronts during the year 2011. The company incurred continuous production losses in the year due to lack of component supply from Thailand and Japan. Further, lack of diesel options across its car portfolio in India has affected sales in a market which is witnessing frequent hikes in petrol prices and resulting shift of consumers from petrol cars to diesel powered cars.
