Honda Cars India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese car manufacturer Honda has announced that it is targeting the sales milestone of 3,00,000 annual sales by the year 2017. The statement was given by Mr. Jnaneswar Sen Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Honda Cars India.
The carmaker which had been witnessing significant slowdown in sales sprung into action with the launch of its first diesel powered car in India, the Amaze compact sedan which has helped it recover lost ground. The launch of the Honda City with diesel option furthered its scope for expansion as it is now competing for market share in the mid-size sedan segment.
According to Mr. Sen, the carmaker is also planning to venture into the multi-purpose vehicle and premium hatchback segment with the Mobilio and the Jazz respectively.
The expansion drive will be furthered when the automaker’s new production plant at Tapukara in Rajasthan becomes operational by the end of February 2014. Having a capacity of producing 1,20,000 units annually, the plant will enable the carmaker to cater to the increase in demand for its car models.
The dealership network of the carmaker will also be expanded to 230 outlets by the year 2015.
