Honda Cars India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda has announced that it is phasing out the Accord premium sedan from the Indian market. The decision has been taken by the carmaker in response to the low sales of the sedan coupled with the slowdown in the Indian automobile industry.
The automaker states that it will have a larger focus on volume selling smaller car models such as the Brio hatchback and the Honda Amaze compact sedan. The carmaker will also be launching the new fourth generation Honda City sedan in early 2014. With this strategy, the Japanese automaker expects to strengthen its presence in the Indian auto market.
Commenting about the halting of production of the Accord sedan, Mr. Jnaneshwar Sen, Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Honda Cars India stated that the current eighth generation of the Accord is being phased out. He added that the car manufacturer will be developing the next generation of the premium sedan for the Indian market.
