Honda India to commence operations at second plant in March 2014

Honda India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda is set to inaugurate its second production facility in India in the month of March 2014. The new plant located at Tapukara in the state of Rajasthan will commence operations with the initiation of production of the new multi-utility vehicle by Honda, the Mobilio.

The new Tapukara facility will be capable of producing 1,20,000 units annually on a single line. It addition will increase Honda India’s total production to 2,90,000 units annually. The carmaker currently has a production capacity of 1,70,000 units annually at its Greater Noida plant.

Earlier, the plant had an output capacity of 1,20,000 units annually, but with improved production processes and line extension, the production was increased by 40 percent to 1,70,000 units. This was primarily undertaken to accommodate the increase in demand for the new Amaze sedan in India which was the first Honda car to be launched with a diesel engine option.
