GM to tap rural markets

GM India is trying to venture into rural markets in a bid to increase car sales. Right now, GM’s small town and rural sales are quite meagre, the company having sold only 500 cars in these regions in 2008. In comparison, Maruti Suzuki sold 30,000 cars across small towns in the same year. The other car company to have a decent presence in rural areas and small towns is Tata Motors. GM, too, is now working towards building up its brand recognition in small towns across the country.
