GM India plans to launch an electric variant of Chevrolet Spark

General Motors India is planning to launch an electric variant of Chevrolet Spark in India by 2013. The car will be powered by highly advanced nanophosphate A123 system lithium ion battery.

The car is expected to take on Nissan’s electric car, the Nissan Leaf, and would also be launched in many other countries.

The Chevrolet Spark Electric would primarily be a city car and is being designed taking into consideration all the requirements of a city dweller and is expected to be more compact than the Nissan Leaf and the Ford Focus. GM is also currently working on developing an electric version of the Chevrolet Beat and the Opel Meriva minivan (Opel Meriva is being developed in Germany) which covers the distance of 40 miles with a single charge at the top speed of 130 km per hour.
