General Motors showcase Sail hatchback and MPV concept at Auto Expo 2012

General Motors unveiled the Chevrolet Sail hatchback and the MPV concept car for India due to be launched in the country by late 2012. According to Mr. P Balendran General Motors India Vice President Corporate Affairs, the hatchback and the MPV concept are the first two products from the joint venture of the company’s joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC).

He added that the Chevrolet Sail hatchback will be available to the customers by June-July 2012, while the MPV will be rolled out by the end of 2012. The car models will be available with both petrol and diesel variants and would compete with the respective cars in their segment. The company plans to manufacture the engines for the new cars at its plant at Talegaon near Pune,” said Mr. Balendran at the Auto Expo 2012.

General Motors in the process of increasing the production capacity at its Halol plant from 85,000 units to 1,00,000 units. Further expansion will be dependent upon the market conditions according to Mr. P Balendran.
