Fuel Efficient Audi A3 in India by 2013

The India launch of the Audi A3 sedan in 2013 will mark the transformation of Audi from a high end luxury car brand to a relatively affordable brand. The Audi A3 will not only be less expensive, close to Rs. 20,00,000, but will also feature high fuel efficiency and low tailpipe emissions.

A number of technological changes have enabled the Audi A3 to return better fuel economy. The 1.4 Litre, 138bhp TSI engine uses turbo charging and direct injection enabling better power and torque. Moreover, Audi’s cylinder deactivation system shuts down two of the engine’s four cylinders when the car is being driven on the highway at constant speeds. As more pressure is applied on the accelerator, the car will switch back to the four cylinder mode. In this manner, the car is expected to save 0.4 litres of fuel for every hundred kilometers travelled.

The new sedan may also be available with a 2 Litre, four cylinder TDI diesel engine or a smaller 3 cylinder TDI diesel engine.
