Ford planning on a new small car for the Indian competition

Mr. Scott McCormack, the Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) for Ford India said that the company will make a $500 million investment to produce small cars for the Indian market and that these vehicles should be available in next 24 months.

The car will be small according to the prescribed norms of the Indian government, i.e., a 1200 cc petrol and 1500 cc diesel measuring upto 4 mts to avail the concession in excise duties. The company will also be looking into setting up an engine manufacturing plant in India to cater to all the future needs and this facility will also be used to export engines worldwide.
