Ford to make India a compact car global production base

American automobile manufacturer Ford is planning to make India a compact car global production base after setting up its production plant at Sanand in Gujarat in 2014. The carmaker is initiating a project codenamed B562 which will include three different car models on a single platform.

The step to make India a production base is in line with the automaker’s global restructuring planning making India more significant for the company in terms of production and exports. The carmaker is planning to roll out new car models from the new plant including a sub-4 meter sedan, a small hatchback and a mid-size compact sedan by 2015-16.

While the development of the hatchback and the mid-size compact sedan car models are under development, the sub-4 meter sedan is under consideration.

While the new hatchback will be marketed along with the existing Figo model while the new mid-size sedan will replace the existing Fiesta Classic model.
