Ford India to expand export operations to 50 countries

Ford India, the Indian arm of the American automobile major Ford is planning to expand its export operations to 50 new global auto markets by the year 2018. The carmaker expects to gain from the lower manufacturing costs in India to power export growth by expanding production capacity at its Indian facilities.

The carmaker is in the process of setting up its second production plant in India support the growth in its export operations. According to Mr. David Schoch Head Asia-Pacific region Ford, the American automaker will increase its annual production capacity to 4,40,000 units with the commencement of operations at its second facility.

The move by the carmaker is seen as a measure to offset the slow growth in the Indian car industry witnessed throughout the past year 2012 and in 2013. It will also help in catering to the growth in global auto demand for Ford automobiles. Currently, the carmaker exports 27 percent of its total production in India.
