Fiat India ramps up dealer network expansion

Fiat India, the Indian arm of the Italian automobile major Fiat is on an expansion spree in the Indian auto market and is in the process of aggressive expansion of its dealer network to enhance presence. The carmaker has opened 90 dealerships since January 2013 and is targeting 100 dealerships by the end of the year 2013.

In the year 2012, Fiat ended its agreement with Indian automaker Tata Motors which was handling the distribution and sales for the Italian car giant in India. Opening its first exclusive showroom in January 2013, the carmaker has been busy creating a dealer network in the India car market with an aim to have 200 dealers by the year 2015. In line with its 100 mark target, the automaker recently opened three dealerships in the Mumbai area in November 2013.

Fiat India is also gearing up to expand its product offering in India, bringing in a total of nine new products from the Fiat and Chrysler brands and aiming for a market share of 5 percent by the year 2016. The current share of the carmaker stands at less than 1 percent with two car models namely the Linea mid-size sedan and the Punto hatchback.
