Mercedes Benz India, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury auto manufacturer Mercedes Benz is planning to focus on compact cars and sports utility vehicles to drive sales in India. The carmaker states that these segments hold a lot of potential to boost sales.
The luxury automobile manufacturer is planning to launch new products in the two segments. These may include the CLA compact sedan car model which will compete with the likes of the BMW Series 1. The carmaker’s GLA SUV which debuted globally in the month of September 2013 may also be introduced in India in the year 2014 or 2015.
Mr. Eberhard Kern MD and CEO Mercedes India commented about the carmaker’s plans stating that the new products to be launched will have to go through an Indianization process for which significant investment has been made by the carmaker. The automaker is also expanding its production operations aiming to double its production by early 2014.
