Luxury carmaker BMW has announced its plan to launch the new X3, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the Indian roads by Q4 of 2011.
The company has started the trial production of X3 at its assembly plant near Chennai, and the company plans to promote the concept for the SUV from September onwards before its due to hit the market by the year end, reported Andreas Schaaf, President of BMW India, to the Financial Chronicle. Though refusing the give the price details, Mr. Schaaf added, “The new X3 has been developed based on an interesting concept and it will perfectly suit conditions in India. It will bridge the gap between X1 and X5 segments.”
The SUV will be available both in petrol and diesel variants. Since the price range of the existing X3 models is between Rs 41.2 lakh to Rs 42.2 lakh, the new X3 is expected to be priced around Rs. 45 lakh. BMW is said to have developed a supplier base for local assembly of X3, which will lend the SUV a competitive pricing.
