BMW India sells 9,375 units in 2012

BMW India, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW has posted sales of 9,375 units in the year 2012. The company’s sales didn’t grow in comparison to its sales in the year 2011 when it posted sales of 9,371 units.

The German carmaker has managed to hold to the top position in the luxury car segment in India. But it is getting serious competition from Audi India which witnessed a growth of 63 percent in the year 2012 with sales of 9,003 units.

The sales figures for BMW India include the sales of 2,788 units of the 3-Series sedan followed by the 5-Series sedan with 2,618 units. The X1 SUV and the X3 SUV sold 2,461 units and 930 units respectively.

The company plans to introduce the 1-series car model and upgraded version of the 7-Series and the X1 SUV car models in order to expand its portfolio in India and garner higher sales figures in the year 2013. It also plans to implement localization of the 7-Series and the 1-Series car models at its Chennai assembly plant with the aim of reducing import costs and enabling competitive pricing.
