BMW India, the Indian subsidiary of the German automobile manufacturer has achieved the milestone of 25,000 units of production from its Chennai assembly plant on July 10, 2012. Mr. Juergen Eder Managing Director BMW Plant Chennai stated that it took 6 years for the company to reach this milestone and attributed the success to the high quality standards followed by the team at BMW facility.
BMW India established its assembly facility in Chennai in March 2007 and rolled out its 25,000th car on July 10, 2012, after a period of 6 years. The Chennai plant currently assembles the BMW 3 series, the 5 series and the X1 crossover which are available with both petrol and diesel engines. The BMW X3 is produced in diesel variant at the plant.
The company has delivered 4,457 cars to customers since January 2012 to June 2012. In the year 2011, the company sold 9,371 luxury cars in India and has maintained its position at the top in the luxury car segment for the third consecutive year in 2011-12. The German automaker has invested an amount of Rs 180 crore till date in India.
