Hyundai India posts a 4.25 percent growth in January 2013 sales

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean automobile manufacturer and the largest exporter of cars in India posted an increase of 4.25 percent in its total sales for the month of January 2013. The domestic sales of the carmaker grew by 1.2 percent while the exports grew by 10.8 percent.

The South Korean automaker sold a total of 34,302 units in the Indian auto market in comparison to 33,900 units sold in the same month in the year 2012, an increment of 1.2 percent. The exports of the company grew 10.8 percent selling 17,722 units in January 2013 against 16,001 units sold in January 2012.

Commenting on the sales performance of the company, Mr Rakesh Srivastava Vice President (Sales and Marketing) HMIL stated that the Indian car market has been sluggish due to macro-economic factors. He added that the recent changes in price differentials between petrol and diesel have contributed to an increase in demand for petrol cars. Rural markets in India are also contributing to the volume growth of the company, says Mr. Srivastava.
