Maruti Suzuki India has announced that its manufacturing plant at Manesar which was hit by rioting workers will remain closed until the investigation to uncover the causes of the violence that killed one company executive while injuring several others.
According to Mr. R.C. Bhargava Chairman Maruti Suzuki India, the extent of the violence and destruction is shocking to the company management as there were no outstanding labor issues apart from a new wage negotiation. The new wage accord was in progress with the workers, stated Mr. Bhargava. He added that the company will not resume production at the Manesar plant until the investigation is through and the safety of managers and workers is ensured.
The largest automaker in India has been facing labor issues for a while now in addition to the overall sluggishness in the Indian auto industry since 2011 continuing into the year 2012.
