Tata Motors has recalled approximately 1,40,000 units of the Nano to implement the replacement of a starter motor in the car. The company has termed it as an upgrade option for the Nano customers which they can avail to get an improved starter motor. According to reports, the replacement exercise is expected to cost the company around Rs. 110 crore.
The company had conducted a similar exercise in November 2010 which comprised installing a fuse in the electrical components and a cover tool for the catalytic converter. The fuse is meant to prevent short circuits. The exercise was in response to various reports of the Nano catching fire and going up in flames.
The Nano has been upgraded and launched in the month of November 2011 with numerous upgrades and improvements in terms of comfort and performance. The company sold 6,401 units of the car in the month of November 2011.
