BMW will manufacture the G310R in India

BMW G310R in India

The partnership between Indian bike maker TVS and German bike maker BMW Motorrad is looking very good indeed. BMW have officially unveiled the all-new 310cc motorcycle called the G310R, and just like every other BMW bike, the G310R was completely designed and engineered by the German manufacturer in Munich. However, the bike will be built by BMW’s Indian partner, TVS, at their plant in Hosur, India. This is big news because it will be the first time that BMW is manufacturing a bike outside Germany.

The G310R is an attempt to boost the company’s global market share, and while their customers are a little concerned about the bikes being made in India, BMW has done everything possible to ensure the bikes will meet build quality standards set by the Germans. While the roadster is the only bike to have been unveiled so far, BMW has confirmed that many different variants of the bike will make it to production including an adventure variant.

TVS has pumped in an additional Rs 350 crores to expand capacity at their Hosur plant and to manufacture the G310R. All of the manufacturing machinery has been built in Germany and shipped out to India where a specially-trained workforce will build the bikes. Stephan Schaller, the head of BMW Motorrad, said, “Our plan involves increasing the number of dealers by 50% and total annual sales by 50% too. Our target is to sell 200,000 total two wheelers each year which is up from the current record breaking numbers.” The new BMW G310R will hit markets sometime next year and in India the price will hopefully be less then Rs 2 lakhs, which is a very competitive price.
