Volvo Auto India, in an attempt to push its sales, is planning to launch cheaper and more affordable cars in the Indian market. The high prices of its cars owing to their import as CBUs seem to be the main reason for low sales in comparison to other players in the premium segment. The company plans to bring a few changes in its existing models and remove some of the features to develop corporate versions, says Mr. Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India.
Reducing the features in its cars will enable the automaker to lower the prices of its cars. Currently, the portfolio of the company includes four models in the range of Rs. 38,00,000 to Rs. 55,00,000. Volvo’s cars are known for being amongst the safest cars in the world and include features such as Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and sensors. Some of these features and sensors, such as pedestrian detection system and lane assist, are rendered futile owing to the crowded road conditions in India and are considered unnecessary by the many Indian customers.
