Volkswagen to Invest 720 crores at Indian Plant

While the German manufacturer might be facing huge problems and fines in the US and in Europe because of its emission norm scandal, that has still not stop Volkswagen from investing heavily in India. The company has just announced a massive investment of Rs 720 crores for an India-spec compact sedan at its plant in Pune. The car will most likely be available in 2016.

The new VW compact sedan will compete with cars such as the Maruti-Suzuki Swift Dzire, the Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Xcent. The car will be manufactured at VW’s Chakan plant near Pune and it will be specifically designed and developed for India. This new investment is part of the Rs 1500 crores, which in 2014 the company said it would invest in the country for Research and development as well as new equipment for the production facility to help ramp up production capacity.
