The German luxury car maker Volkswagen’s Indian subsidiary Volkswagen India has stated that launching electric cars in India would offer a major challenge due to the inadequacy of infrastructure in the country to support electric vehicles. It added that the company is considering launching new vehicles including electric cars in India.
The company also talked about increasing its presence in the Indian auto industry by doubling the number of its dealerships by 2015 which currently stand at more than 200. This would require trained manpower and technical staff for which the company has inaugurated the Volkswagen Group Technical Education Program for the training of technicians to cater to its increasing needs with its expanding presence in India.
The company is banking upon its more than 10 percent growth witnessed since January to July 2012 to increase the number of technicians in order to serve more customers. A centralized training centre will also be opened by the company in Pune in the month of October 2012 for the same purpose.
