Volkswagen India, the Indian arm of the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen is set to launch the Volkswagen UP small city car and the Budget Car small car in the Indian car market. While it is unclear as to when the new car models will hit the Indian markets, the carmaker expects to drive volume sales with the two new car models in India.
The information was shared by Mr. Mahesh Kodumudi President and Managing Director Volkswagen India who stated that the carmaker is studying and considering different options for the different auto segments in India. He added that the German automaker is looking at targeting a high volume auto segment in India to drive volume sales.
Mr. Kodumudi further stated that the Indian auto market is a difficult retail market in comparison to other markets in the world and while deciding which products to introduce in the market, the company has to take decisions for the long term as far as more than a decade.
The car models to be launched by the automaker will also be up for exports. Thus, the new cars will be launched after consideration for both domestic sales as well as export operations to global markets with the aim of preparing for market volatility.
