Volkswagen reported a 140 percent increase in its annual car sales in India with 78,408 units sold during 2011 in comparison to 32,627 units in 2010. The German auto major views these figures with optimism given the slowdown in the auto industry in the second half of 2011 which engulfed all the car manufacturers.
According to Mr. Neeraj Garg, Volkswagen Group Sales India Director and Member of Board for the company’s passenger cars division, the company attributes the growth in its car sales to the continued investments made by it in the Indian auto industry, introducing new and refreshed models and expanding the reach of the company across the country.
Introducing the BlueMotion Technology, the company has launched the new Passat and the revamped Jetta in 2011. The Passat has sold 1,170 units since it was launched in April 2011 while the Jetta sold 1,688 units from August 2011. The rest of the sales figures are contributed to by the Polo and the Vento car ranges.
