Volkswagen Group sales increase by 69% in India

Europe’s biggest car maker, Volkswagen Group India has registered a growth of 69% from January to June 2008 as compared to the same period in 2007. The group sold 10,366 cars under the brands of Skoda, Audi and Volkswagen as compared to 6,131 cars in 2007.

Skoda sold 9,665 units while Audi and Volkswagen sold 470 and 340 units respectively. The company targets sales of 20,000 units in 2008.

The company is also developing two cars(hatchback and small sedan) based on the compact car ‘Polo’ platform, which would be rolled out from its Chakan facility by 2010.

The company has recently launched the sedan Audi A4 which will help them in fulfilling their target of 1,000 Audi sales in 2008.

The company will be lauching Volkswagen Jetta shortly at Rs 13 lakhs approximately.
