Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy MD, Mr Sandeep Singh, said this week that the company would showcase its upcoming compact car at the January 2010 Delhi Auto Expo. He said that Toyota would display both the sedan and hatchback versions of the concept vehicle next month. The car’s production will begin at the company’s new plant in Bangalore in December 2010. Mr Singh said that TKM would produce 70,000 units of the car in the first year of its launch. With the new small car – Toyota’s first in the segment in India, the company hopes to become a volume player in the country.
It will also showcase its hybrid car, the Toyota Prius, at the Auto Expo. Singh said that TKM was trying to convince the government to offer a special concession on the car’s import duty. Without a government concession, the vehicle will have to be sold at an extremely high price. The company has so far not said anything specific about the Prius’ pricing in India.
Toyota will certainly secure its place in India with the compact car which will be showcased at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo.
