Toyota Kirloskar Motor to assemble Camry in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the venture between the Japanese automaker Toyota and Kirloskar Group has announced that the new Camry premium sedan will be assembled at its Bangalore facility in India. The company will commence the assembly of the sedan from July 2012 and will re-launch the car in August 2012.

About 300 units of the Camry are imported as completely built units (CBU) in India from Japan annually by the company. With a high import duty, the price of the sedan increases by a 100 percent in comparison to a completely knocked down (CKD) unit which attracts a lesser import duty.

In order to expand its production capacity at its production plant, the company is investing about Rs 900 crore increasing its capacity from 2,10,000 units to 3,10,000 units by 2013.
