Toyota India to recall 41,000 cars for fuel pipe replacement

Toyota India has announced the recall of 41,000 cars comprising the sedan Etios and the hatchback Etios Liva due to a manufacturing fault. According to the Japanese auto major, the exercise is a safety campaign and not a recall since it will entail replacement of a faulty inlet pipe to the fuel tank. Toyota is operating in India as Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) in collaboration with the Kirloskar Group.

It is a proactive approach by the company to inform its customers that they may contact company dealers at their convenience and get the faulty pipe replaced, said Mr. Sandeep Singh, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Deputy Managing Director – Marketing. The company insists that the development is not a dangerous one but a necessary one as per Toyota’s worldwide policy.

According to the company, the filler hose which is the inlet pipe to the fuel tank needs to replaced due to the possibility of cracks in the pipe. Such an occurrence may result in fuel leakage in case the tank is completely filled.
