Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer has ended the lockout at its two production facilities near Bangalore. The carmaker has welcomed the workers to come back to work by signing a contract promising good conduct.
Workers at the facilities have however refused to sign such a contract and thus, while the lockout by the carmaker is over, resuming full production is still a concern. The workers stated that among their demands are pay increment and reinstating of the 30 workers suspended by the carmaker.
The Japanese automaker had initiated a lockout for the workers as a security measure in response to the disruption of production by workers. The conflict is a result of the ongoing wage negotiation between the carmaker and the workers union.
The lockout was implemented on March 16, 2014 as a security measure for the carmaker’s workforce and management.
