Toyota Fortuner launched in India; 2,500 bookings in two days

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) launched its globally successful SUV, the Toyota Fortuner, in India this week. Priced at Rs 18.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Fortuner comes with a 3.0 litre D-4D diesel engine and 5-speed manual transmission. Toyota Motor Corporation’s senior Managing Director, Akira Okabe, told media persons that the Fortuner had already sold over 2.5 lakh units in more than 60 countries since its launch in 2005 and that  its launch in India signified Toyota’s commitment to providing best in class quality and technology to its customers in India.

The Fortuner, meanwhile, has pleasantly surprised the company with its bookings touching 2,500 units within two days of launch. TKM had targeted a sales figure of 2,000 units for the SUV this year. The company has closed bookings for the Fortuner for now. Deputy Managing Director (Commercial) TKM, Shekhar Vishwanathan, said that the company would roll out the booked vehicles by November-December 2009. The plan is to release 500 units of the SUV every month.
