Japanese automaker Toyota’s Corolla Altis premium car model has bagged the ‘Executive Sedan of the Year’ Award at the Car and Bike India Awards 2015. The event took place in Mumbai (India) where the sedan was recognized for its design innovation and quality engineering.

The award for the sedan was accepted by Mr. N Raja Director and Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales Toyota Kirloskar Motor. He stated at the event that Toyota is currently running the 11 generation of the Corolla sedan in India.

The premium sedan was launched in the year 1966 and has entered its 49th year in 2015 and has been claimed to be the No. 1 selling sedan with more than 4.1 crore customers globally. Commenting about the global sales of the Corolla, Mr. N Raja added that if all Corolla cars sold globally were to be stacked together, it would cover the Earth’s circumference four times over and still have 50,00,000 cars remaining.

In the Indian auto market, the new Corolla Altis sedan currently holds a market share of 53 percent in the C segment, making it the highest selling car model in the segment. The sedan is reportedly manufactured at 16 production bases and sold in about 154 auto markets across the world.
