British car brands Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) owned by Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors is planning to set up an engine manufacturing plant in India. The new engine facility by JLR will build lower specification engines and will also supply engines to Tata Motors. According to Mr. Ralf Speth JLR Chief Executive, the company will work upon synergizing capabilities with Tata Motors.
Currently, the engine requirement of JLR is fulfilled by its former owner company Ford Motor. Mr. Speth stated that although JLR would set up its own engine manufacturing units, the company’s relationship with Ford will continue.
JLR is also in the process of setting up an engine facility in United Kingdom while planning to set up plants in China and Brazil apart from India. JLR has big ambitions but being a small company, it has limited resources, says Mr. Speth.
