As per market sources, Tata have decided to move the Nano plant to Gujarat. Ever since the plant moved from Singur due to political resistance, various state governments, including Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, have made offers for locating the small-car project in their state.
Last year at the second Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit, Mr. Ratan Tata Chairman – Tata Motors quoted “You are stupid if you are not in Gujarat”. Following his words, Mr. Tata is scheduled to arrive in Gujarat on Tuesday and is expected to make a joint statement on the matter with Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
A Tata Motors team has already done the various surveys of the new proposed site, which is reportedly located in Sanand, 34 km from Ahmedabad. Four sites at Sanand, Mundra, Khambhat and Dahej had been offered to Tata Motors for the plant
Gujarat government has promised the Tatas various tax sops and ready land along with connectivity to the national highway. The company has also been assured that no bandhs or labour unrest will hurt the project. The state has already allocated 2,200 acres to the company which requires 1,000 acres to set up the mother plant, targeting to churn out 4 lakh cars per annum.
