Hyundai India touted as India’s second largest car manufacturer has been unable to generate sales figures up to the expectations for the newly launched Eon small car and hence it has been unable to meet its monthly target for the small car. The company’s problems have given way to Tata Motors rising up to grab the position of second largest car manufacturer in India since December 2012.
According to industry experts, the low sales of the Eon may be a result of absence of a diesel option in the small car. The sales have further been affected due to the overall economic slowdown in the Indian automobile industry in 2011.
Apart from Hyundai India’s misfortunes, Tata Motors has also been aided by the sales of its small car Nano which has been introduced in the rural markets with attractive finance packages.
