Tata Motors launches all new family of Petrol engines called “REVOTRON”

Tata Motors introduced the new series of Petrol engines named “REVOTRON”, the next-generation Petrol engine family that will power its future models in the passenger vehicle market. The first engine of the series is a “1.2 T” with Turbocharged Intercooled Multi-point Fuel Injected (MPFi) system.

The unit is developed by Tata Motors with input from AVL (Austria) and technology partners like Bosch, Honeywell, Mahle and INA. The Revotron series will be offered in 3 cylinders and 4 cylinder tune.

 Key Features of 1.2 T:

  • Engine delivering 85 PS @ 5,000 RPM and 140 NM @ 1,750-3,500 RPM
  • Drive by wire technology
  • 8-Hole fuel injector for efficient combustion

In which Tata cars can we see Revotron engines:

  • 1.2 T in its 4 cylinder will be seen doing duty in upcoming new generation of Tata Indica followed by Manza sedan
  • We can also the Revotron in its 3 cylinder guise doing duty in future small car below Indica and above Nano
  • The 3 cylinder Revotron can be used by Tata in Nano also

What will work in 1.2 T Revotron favour:

  • Higher fuel efficiency as Turbo engines are more efficient than conventional normally aspirated engines
  • Higher torque with Turbo will favour driving experience
  • Higher power at lower revs

What will work against 1.2 T Revotron:

  • Turbo engines are known to be plagued with lags as compared to normally aspirated engines
  • Tata’s till now is primarily known for its diesel offerings
  • Ever increasing dieselisation in India
