Subaru is planning to achieve one million cars sold globally by the year 2022 by releasing four new cars including three new models and its first hybrid car in the next five years. The ‘Motion-V’ mid-term strategy was revealed overnight by the manufacturer of Subaru vehicles, Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), and includes plans from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2016. Offering its customers the “core values of enjoyment and peace of mind”, FHI is set on enhancing its Subaru fan base.
The rear-wheel drive sports car which has been developed in collaboration with Toyota will be a part of the new models to be launched and is said to start selling in the market in the second quarter of 2012. There is also a possibility that the Subaru XV concept car is taken up as a production model. The concept car is currently a part of the 2011 Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne. Also, the proposed hybrid is reported to be based on the Subaru Hybrid Tourer concept, revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2009.
Over the next five years, Subaru will focus on three issues, namely, to enhance driving performance, to create environmentally friendly solutions and to improve safety technology. It plans to achieve advancements in both active and passive systems and develop technologies for pre-crash features such as Eyesight and Active Driving Assist with stereo cameras. Similarly, efforts are being made by the company towards the environment concern to improve the average fuel economy of its cars by 30 percent by 2016.
FHI is relying on its alliance with Toyota Motor Corp and strengthening its production capacity to improve global sales by 40%. The company says that the US and Chinese markets will be targeted to attain this feat.
