Skoda as a part of its future plans is contemplating to export its cars manufactured in India to global markets starting with its new Rapid sedan which is scheduled to be launched in India on November 16, 2011.
The company’s Indian arm, Skoda Auto India is anticipating the Rapid to become its best-selling car in India, overtaking sales of the Fabia in India. Mr. Tarun Jha, Skoda Auto India’s Marketing Head stated, “This car is specifically designed for India and the launch will be the global launch for the car. At a later stage, it may be introduced in different markets across the world.”
Currently, the company does not export any of its models from India. Mr. Jha said that at present the company’s best-selling car is the Fabia, of which the company sells 1,200-1,500 units every month. As the company is anticipating an increased demand for the Rapid sedan, the company is in the middle of expanding its dealership network in India from 82 to 100 by the end of 2011.
