Skoda commences the production of Rapid from its Chakan plant

Czech carmaker Skoda on October 7, 2011, announced the start of production of its yet-to-be-launched entry level sedan Rapid from the company’s Chakan plant near Pune (India).

According to Skoda, the Rapid is the first car to be produced by the company which will be exclusively manufactured in India. It has been developed to meet the special needs of the Indian customers. According to Skoda Auto Chairman of the Board of Management, Mr. Winfried Vahland, the car will be introduced in India shortly.

The Chakan plant which has an annual production capacity of 1,10,000 units, has been set up by Volkswagen, and rolls out models, including the Polo and the Vento. The Skoda Fabia is also produced at the same plant. The new entry level mid-sized sedan Skoda Rapid will be available in both diesel and petrol variants, as announced by Skoda.
