Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection

In 1937 Sir Malcolm Campbell set a new water speed record when he hit 208 kmph with a Bluebird K3 hydroplane powered by a Rolls-Royce engine. To pay homage to that wonderful record and to the boat, Rolls Royce has just revealed the special edition Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection. The Waterspeed Collection Phantom Drophead Coupe will feature a number of exclusively created bespoke designs and engineering features, perfectly executed to create a thoroughly contemporary tribute to Campbell’s famous craft. The car has been built to resemble the look of the boat, but where there was wood and decks on the original boat, it has been replaced by metal on the car. The overall design of the car, as well as the interiors, and the instrument cluster and steering wheel, have been carefully designed to pay homage to the vessel that set the water speed record.

“This very special motor car serves to pay a perfect homage to my grandfather’s remarkable acts of British daring and endeavour,” said Donald Wales, grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell. “The extraordinary attention-to-detail and commitment to engineering excellence so evident in these motor cars perfectly echoes the lengths my grandfather and his colleagues went to in their pursuit of the water speed records.”
