The 50:50 joint venture of Japan’s Nissan and France’s Renault to manufacture cars in India has started the construction of its Rs 4,500 crore passenger car plant in Chennai.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Shohei Kimura, managing director of Nissan-Renault mentioned that the new project was a tangible result of the strength and success of the Nissan-Renault alliance and demonstrated the company’s long-term strategy for this important market. The plant will roll out cars by 2010 and has a design capacity of 400,000 units annually.
