Ratan Tata steps down from Fiat’s Board

Mr. Ratan Tata Chairman Tata Sons has stepped down from the position of independent director on the Board of the Italian automobile manufacturer Fiat SpA. According to a Tata Sons spokesperson, Mr. Tata left the position in order to reduce his engagements.

Mr. Tata became a director on the Board of Fiat SpA in 2006 before the two companies, Tata Motors and Fiat, joined hands for joint business in the Indian automobile industry entailing manufacturing and marketing of cars apart from technology exchange and sourcing of diesel engines. Till date, Mr. Tata has been the only Indian to have served on the Board of the Italian automaker.

Other than the automaker Fiat SpA, Mr. Tata has been a board member with other non-Tata companies such as Alcoa, a United States based company and various universities.
